Lukashenko on consequences of possible NATO invasion in Belarus

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – If NATO had invaded Belarus, it would have been World War III, Belarusian President Aleksandr said in an interview with the VGTRK journalist, radio and TV host Vladimir Soloviev, BelTA has learned.

During the interview, Vladimir Soloviev asked the head of state about the events of August 2020, when the president visited the Gozhsky training ground near the border with Poland. Before the election, NATO had just begun to build up its forces near the Belarusian border.

"You were prepared for war on the border with Poland because ...," the journalist began asking his question.

"More than prepared," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

He recalled that one of the plans of the riot masterminds was to destabilize the situation inside the country and ask NATO to send troops to resolve the conflict. "They would have invited NATO. Imagine the situation: NATO had been invited here and what would have happened? A war," the head of state said.

"World War III," the host added.

"Yes," the Belarusian leader replied back.
