MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) - Belarus and Tanzania have identified a number of promising areas for bilateral cooperation. The matter was discussed during a meeting between Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov and Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Mwigulu Nchemba, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
From political interaction to practical results
The parties noted the high level of political interaction between Belarus and Tanzania and the need to turn it into practical results in trade and the economy. Maxim Ryzhenkov and Mwigulu Nchemba spoke in favor of intensifying bilateral cooperation in all areas, primarily in the economy, to organize supplies of goods that are in demand in both countries.
On behalf of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Maxim Ryzhenkov extended an invitation to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to visit Belarus at a convenient time.
“Both sides noted the need to broaden the bilateral legal framework, focusing on creating practical mechanisms for joint efforts in specific areas: agriculture, manufacturing, pharmacology, veterinary medicine, and education. The organization of joint economic events, business forums, and regular contacts between business circles was also discussed,” the press service said.
The meeting identified several promising areas for bilateral cooperation, and authorized agencies were given instructions to follow up immediately with their Belarusian counterparts.
Tanzania’s prime minister invited Belarus’ Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin to visit Tanzania by the end of 2026.

Agricultural mechanization, fertilizer supply and logistics
During a meeting between Maxim Ryzhenkov and Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, the parties exchanged views on current issues of the international and bilateral agenda.
The foreign ministers called for creating a joint trade commission to develop mechanisms to boost trade and push joint projects toward practical implementation. The focus is on areas such as agricultural mechanization, food security, educational programs, fertilizer supplies, and logistics, with an emphasis on developing cargo air transportation and using port infrastructure.
Maxim Ryzhenkov urged practical steps to achieve balanced trade between the two countries and set up direct supply channels for goods and services.
“The parties noted the similarity of positions of the two countries on the international stage and expressed readiness for further mutual support at international organizations’ platforms, including on anti-colonial topics. They also discussed upcoming events to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Tanzania, which will be celebrated in May 2026,” the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The discussions also touched on the schedule for upcoming high-level and highest-level visits. Maxim Ryzhenkov invited his counterpart to pay a visit to Minsk.
Livestock farming, aquaculture, and biotechnology
During a meeting with Tanzanian Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Bashiru Ally Kakurwa, the parties discussed the transfer of Belarusian technologies in breeding and veterinary medicine, as well as organizing a visit by representatives of Tanzania’s agricultural sector to Belarus for the Belagro exhibition to expand cooperation in livestock farming, aquaculture, and biotechnology, including supplies of Belarusian feed for animals and fish.
The Tanzanian side expressed interest in Belarusian technologies for producing veterinary vaccines, supplies of bioactive additives for livestock farming, as well as selection of genetic material for cattle.
Organization of academic exchanges
During a meeting with Tanzanian Minister of Education, Science and Technology Adolf Mkenda, the parties discussed expanding the practice of allocating Belarusian state scholarships for education, as well as increasing the total number of Tanzanian students in Belarusian universities, including through academic exchanges to train specialists, including in the field of African studies.
The two sides agreed to arrange a visit by senior officials from Tanzania's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, along with representatives of Tanzanian universities, to study Belarus’ higher education system.
During the official visit, memorandums of cooperation were signed between the National Export Promotion Center of Belarus and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the Tanzania Trade Development Authority, and the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation. The documents will strengthen bilateral business contacts and facilitate the organization of economic events in the two countries.
