MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) - Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has expressed hope for a new chapter in Warsaw-Minsk relations following a prisoner swap at the state border between Belarus and Poland on 28 April, BelTA reports citing RMF24.
At the press conference, Radosław Sikorski said that now the ball is in the court of Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko. “We are always ready to respond with goodwill to gestures of goodwill,” Radosław Sikorski added.
As reported, on 28 April, a prisoner exchange operation based on a five-for-five formula took place on the state border between Belarus and Poland. The event marked the culmination of a complex and lengthy negotiation process between Belarus’ State Security Committee (KGB) and Poland’s Foreign Intelligence Agency, which was carried out on the direct orders of the president of Belarus. As a result of the operation, ten citizens of various countries have been freed and given the opportunity to reunite with their families.
