BREST, 28 April (BelTA) - Representatives from Asian, African, and European countries are taking part in the International Business Contact Forum “First Region - A Territory of Success in Brest”. A big delegation has arrived from China. Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik spoke with BelTA about the development of ties with partners from China.
The forum’s business program covers key areas of the economy and social development. It is attended by more than 100 representatives from various countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe, including officials, businesspeople, and diplomats. A delegation from China is among them. According to Piotr Parkhomchik, Brest Oblast is involved in implementing many projects with Chinese partners.
“For example, our project for refrigerator production is developing successfully. The latest proposal from China is to provide additional space to expand refrigerator production. This requires creating the necessary infrastructure. We are preparing such space to offer to them,” said Piotr Parkhomchik. He noted that the household appliances produced are successfully exported.
The governor pointed out that representatives of the Chinese company have put forward several other proposals. “There is a request for certain additional production facilities. They are also discussing specific products they would like to manufacture in Brest Oblast,” Piotr Parkhomchik added without revealing details of the negotiations.
Chinese partners are also participating in an investment project to modernize greenhouse farming in Brest Oblast. A super-greenhouse is being developed near Brest. The first phase covers 1.7 hectares. “This will allow us to multiply our production of tomatoes and cucumbers. All agreements are in place, all documents have been signed, and equipment manufacturing and delivery are underway. The goal is to complete construction and begin vegetable production this year,” the Brest Oblast governor said.
