MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has advanced to the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open quarterfinals, BelTA has learned.
In the Round of 16, the world number one defeated Japan’s world number 15 Naomi Osaka in a three-set match, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted for two hours and 22 minutes. Aryna Sabalenka will next face world number 32 Hailey Baptiste of the USA. In the opener, the Belarusian beat world number 43 Peyton Stearns of the USA, 7-5, 6-3, and then also won in two sets against Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian (World No. 33), 6-1, 6-4.
Aryna Sabalenka is a three-time champion of the Mutua Madrid Open (2021, 2023, 2025). In last year’s final, she defeated American Coco Gauff. This year’s tournament on the clay courts of the Spanish capital will conclude on 3 May.
