MOSCOW, 27 April (BelTA) – The experience of Belarus and Russia in ensuring security within the framework of the Union State could be useful for other integration blocs in Eurasia, Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Alexei Shevtsov said on the sidelines of the international conference “Contours of a New Collective Security Architecture: Current Issues of Information and Analytical Partnership within the CSTO,” held in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
“The old European security architecture no longer works. The urgent task is to find additional means of ensuring our common security. In this regard, it is necessary to keep the situation within the CSTO’s area of responsibility under constant control, have sufficient leverage to counter threats, and use joint forces and assets, including the military component, in a timely and effective manner. Significant progress has been made in this direction. For example, thanks to the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, the security concept of the Union State has been adopted. Moreover, in light of increased military activity by our neighbors, a Treaty on Security Guarantees has been concluded, and a common defense space is being formed. This experience could be useful in the further alignment of various structures across Eurasia,” said Alexei Shevtsov.
“The global security architecture has effectively been dismantled. Interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, including armed aggression, has become commonplace, while all principles and norms of international law are being completely ignored. Illegal sanctions have finally taken shape as a tool for advancing the geopolitical ambitions of Western countries. States that reject the Western model are having artificial obstacles placed in the way of their free and sovereign development. All of this is a manifestation of the Western colonial, parasitic model,” stated the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council.
