MOSCOW, 27 April (BelTA) – The principles of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century, initiated by Belarus, address the entire world, CSTO Secretary-General Taalatbek Masadykov said during the international scientific and practical conference “Contours of a new architecture of collective security: Current issues of CSTO information and analytical partnership” in Moscow on 27 April, BelTA has learned.

“The draft Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century is one of the key documents we are working on. Its principles are addressed not only to Eurasia but to the entire world, just as the initiative to build a Greater Eurasia represents a step toward security and justice for the whole world,” Taalatbek Masadykov said.

“The choice we face today is whether the 21st-century generation will uphold the best traditions of the 20th century and all of human history or if the world will be thrust into a new global military and political crisis, this time with the threat of total annihilation. This assessment of the current state of affairs is entirely justified,” he noted.

The CSTO secretary-general pointed out that a polycentric world order, in which centers of influence may emerge as either states or their unions, does not inherently dictate the nature of the relationships between such poles. “In the past, disagreements were often resolved by military means in polycentric systems. And we see that some politicians and experts today also envision a multipolar world as a world of military conflicts. It seems that certain military-political organizations simply rule out the possibility of a peaceful resolution of both existing and potential disagreements. The CSTO countries hold a different view. It is well known that our organization has the necessary range of political and military capabilities and is consistently strengthening them,” he noted.

Taalatbek Masadykov stressed that both the CSTO Treaty and the CSTO Charter enshrine the priority of political means in achieving the organization’s goals. “We believe that a polycentric world can and must be stable and secure. But concrete answers to the question of how to achieve this in the current highly dynamic conditions have yet to be formulated and refined. And this is the main task not only for international organizations, but also for those who prepare assessments, forecasts and recommendations in the field of international security,” the CSTO secretary-general added.
