MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Omsk Oblast has entered the top five Russian regions in terms of transaction value on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) for the first time, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.

In Q1 2026, the total value of transactions made by companies from Omsk Oblast on BUCE increased fivefold year-on-year, allowing the region to take fifth place in terms of trade among the 79 constituent entities of the Russian Federation represented on the Belarusian exchange platform. Head of the BUCE Foreign Economic Activity Department Yaroslav Kovalchuk outlined these figures, while speaking at a seminar for business circles of Omsk Oblast. The event took place in Minsk at the premises of the Russian Trade Mission in Belarus on 29 April.

During his presentation of BUCE’s potential, the representative emphasized that, taking into account exchange trading in April 2026, the mutual trade between Belarus and Omsk Oblast showed even higher positive dynamics. This indicates that the instruments offered by the exchange are in demand among Omsk businesses.

“To date, the transaction value for Omsk-based traders has already exceeded $14 million, nearly seven times higher than in January-April last year. As a result, Omsk Oblast has climbed to fourth place in exchange trade, trailing only the traditional leaders: Moscow Oblast, Smolensk Oblast, and Leningrad Oblast. The key growth driver was the purchase of Belarusian agricultural products. While Omsk companies bought $0.5 million worth of agricultural products in January-April 2025, that figure has surged to over $13 million for the same period this year. The most popular commodity is butter,” Yaroslav Kovalchuk said.

During the meeting with Omsk entrepreneurs, the parties also discussed prospects for expanding the range of goods involved in exchange transactions with Belarusian enterprises. In particular, a major Omsk processor and exporter of agricultural crops expressed interest in selling grain, legumes and oilseeds through BUCE. In addition, agreements were reached on the accreditation of manufacturers of measuring instruments and components for equipment used in the oil, gas and chemical industries on the exchange. Goods in this category are in high demand on BUCE’s industrial and consumer goods trading platform.
