BREST, 29 April (BelTA) - Brest ranks among the most visited cities in Belarus, especially for Russian tourists who come to soak up the warm atmosphere and connect with the history of the legendary fortress on the Bug River. A BelTA correspondent joined a tour group from Russia to hear their impressions of Belarus.

Many in the group have already visited Minsk and Grodno. Brest was their next stop. According to the tourists, the city stands out for its unique charm.

Many noted the hard work, responsiveness, politeness, and friendliness of Belarusian people.

“Belarusian nature is amazing. The flowering fields are stunning, and the forests are something else entirely. With so many evergreen trees, it feels like it’s always warm here,” shared Kristina Nikul from Rostov-on-Don.

According to her, she wanted to visit historical sites during her trip to Belarus. “I’m interested in monuments and the stories of Soviet soldiers who defended their land. This must never be forgotten. I have always wanted to visit Brest and learn about its history. I also plan to go to Pinsk. I feel a whole range of positive emotions from this trip. But I am sure, at the Brest Fortress today I won’t be able to hold my tears,” she said.

The tourists highly praised the comfort of the urban environment. “You can see that the state cares about people. Everything is so well thought out and convenient, it’s simply admirable,” noted Lyudmila Meshcheryakova from Rostov-on-Don. Irina Shchupakevich agreed. From her point of view, Belarusians value the place where they live, their home, their street, their city, and their country as a whole.

Russian tourists were also impressed by Belarusian architecture. “It mostly reminds me of Western Europe, except for the Soviet-era buildings. I really like how everything is so well maintained. It feels like there is a unifying concept behind the cities, yet each one has its own peculiarity,” said Ara Ellaryan from Rostov-on-Don.

“Minsk with lots of parks and beautiful buildings left positive impressions. I would love to come back to Belarus, but not as part of an organized tour. I want to stroll at my own pace, enjoy nice cafes, and admire the beautiful views. I also really liked how local products are promoted here,”  noted Svetlana Uzkaya from Arkhangelsk.

Daria Titushkina from Moscow is keen to learn about the daily lives of Belarusians, and for good reason: her ancestors came from Belarus. “I am curious to see what life is like here. I want to visit the places where my ancestors lived, see those places with my own eyes, and definitely take photos,” the Russian guest explained.

After an emotional journey, the tourists gladly turned their attention to the food. They enjoyed machanka (a traditional meat stew) and draniki (potato pancakes). The quality of Belarusian goods impressed everyone. The tour members shared what souvenirs they plan to buy: linen, straw and wooden crafts, porcelain and crystal, postcards, magnets with bison images, meat products, dairy products, and zefir.

According to the travelers, tours to Belarus are becoming increasingly popular in Russia. Many noted the convenient transport links. “Such tours often bring together people from different cities. Relatives, friends, couples. Along the way, they get to know each other and make new friends from another country,” said the tour guide Nikolai Sereda.

All participants expressed a desire to come back to Belarus for another visit in the future, and some are even considering moving here.
