MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – Polish citizens Grzegorz Gaweł and Tomasz Beroza expressed their gratitude to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko for his decision to release them. The corresponding video was aired on the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
After the announcement that his pre-trial restrictions had been lifted and he was released from custody, Grzegorz Gaweł expressed his gratitude to the Belarusian head of state. “Many thanks to Mr. President Aleksandr Lukashenko. I also thank all KGB officers for my stay here. This experience has been very valuable for me,” he said.
Tomasz Beroza, upon being informed that he was released from serving his sentence for the crime he had committed, was visibly emotional: he covered his face with his hands. “Thank you all very much,” he said then.
According to the TV report, Polish spy Grzegorz Gaweł was detained in 2025 in the act of attempting to take classified military data out of Belarus. Tomasz Beroza, an agent of the Polish special services, had been preparing caches and observation points for them.
Among those pardoned was also Andrei Pochobut, who had been serving a sentence for several particularly serious crimes. Taking into account the personal appeals made to the president of Belarus by Andrei Pochobut’s mother and by Anzhelika Boris, director of a Polish-language school, the head of state instructed the KGB to include the convicted individual in this exchange process.
Anzhelika Boris confirmed that Andrei Pochobut had left for Poland. “But he can return to Belarus at any time. He has no restrictions,” she said.
“I would like to thank President Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko of Belarus for the fact that Andrei [Pochobut] is free and that he can freely return to Belarus,” Anzhelika Boris noted.
