Airlifter with 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine leaves Beijing for Belarus

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Another batch of COVID-19 vaccines produced by Sinopharm is en route to Belarus from China, BelTA learned from the embassy of Belarus in Beijing.

“China provided 300,000 doses of the vaccine free of charge. The vaccine is being delivered by a jet of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Belarus with the assistance of the Emergencies Ministry. This all became possible due to the joint effort of the foreign ministries of Belarus and China, the embassies of the two countries, the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus, China International Development Cooperation Agency, Sinopharm and other stakeholders,” the diplomatic mission said.

The acceptance certificate was signed on 16 May with the participation of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the People's Republic of China Yuri Senko.

Together with the vaccine, the Chinese side also donated 300,800 syringes. The Belarusian embassy emphasized that the Sinopharm vaccine had already proved its efficacy. The vaccine got WHO emergency approval on 7 May 2021. “This is the first Chinese vaccine acknowledged by WHO as safe and effective,” added the Belarusian embassy in Beijing.
