MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Personnel of the 17th Belarusian Antarctic expedition delivered cargoes to the Belarusian Antarctic station Mount Vechernyaya on 10-12 December according to the expedition’s chief Aleksei Gaidashov, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.

Aleksei Gaidashov said: “The cargo delivery by air was complicated by a low cloud cover, fog, and the lack of contrast in this area. As part of the freight operation 56 tonnes of mixed cargo was delivered from the Akademik Fedorov ship to the Belarusian Antarctic station Mount Vechernyaya. The cargo includes structures for a new facility of the Belarusian Antarctic station, scientific equipment, consumable products, spare parts for machines and vehicles, diesel fuel reserves, and food. The cargo was delivered without losses or damage. The personnel are healthy.”

The chief of the 17th Belarusian Antarctic expedition said that tight professional interaction between personnel of the Belarusian Antarctic expedition, members of the crew of the research vessel, and the air detachment contributed to the success of the cargo delivery by air.

Personnel of the 17th Belarusian Antarctic expedition continue carrying out the research programs approved by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, maintenance plans, and environmental protection measures. The Belarusian Antarctic station Mount Vechernyaya has the necessary reserves of fuel, food, and medications. Steady communication is maintained via satellites with foreign Antarctic stations, international coordination centers, and the Akademik Fedorov ship.
