GOMEL, 3 May (BelTA) - A cycling event called Together Under the Country’s Flag will take place in Gomel Oblast on 5-10 May, BelTA learned from the event organizers.
The bike ride is timed to coincide with the Day of the State Flag, State Emblem and National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus. It will begin in Zhitkovichi with a commemorative event at the monument to fallen Red Army soldiers and partisans.
From there, the patriots of the southeastern oblast will split into two routes - a northern route and a southern route - and travel through the districts of the oblast. Participants will visit historical sites such as monuments, memorials, obelisks, and mass graves, as well as other significant locations, where they will lay flowers and wreaths. On 10 May, the Day of the State Flag, State Emblem and National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus, the cyclists will gather in Gomel.
Participants will include athletes, coaches from sports training institutions, and cycling enthusiasts. Anyone can join the bike ride; route details are available at: https://gomel-region.gov.by/ru/veloprobeg-ru.
The cycling event aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, foster patriotic education among young people by introducing them to the history of their homeland, and develop amateur and mass cycling in the oblast. The bike ride is organized by the Sports Department and the Committee for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
