A total of 52 gymnasts competed in the event. Darya Verenich also finished sixth in the ribbon program today, and yesterday she won bronze in the hoop event. Another Belarusian, Anna Kamenshchikova, placed 16th with clubs and 9th with ribbon.
The European Cup in Baku also featured competitions in a new format, the junior cross-battle, which is similar to playoff rounds in team sports. Belarusian gymnasts Ksenia Bondarenko and Kira Babkevich came just short of the podium: in the quarterfinals they defeated the team from Türkiye, but in the semifinals lost to the future champions from Russia. In the bronze-medal match, Ksenia Bondarenko and Kira Babkevich were edged out by the duo from Israel. Senior medals in this discipline will be contested on 3 May.
