MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) - Plans for the development of the Pinsk Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant were outlined by Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik told the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The plant is part of the Transport and Communications Ministry system. A proposal has been made to transfer it to the management of Brest Oblast. The matter was discussed with the transport and communications minister. “This is the first administrative step we would like to take in order to manage the enterprise and make decisions,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

One of the projects being considered for implementation jointly with a company from Leningrad Oblast is the production of electric vessels. “We have chosen a good, promising model - an eco-friendly vessel powered by rechargeable batteries,” Piotr Parkhomchik said. “For our Polesie nature, I think this is an absolutely correct and sound choice. Moreover, they already have vessels that will run on hydrogen fuel.”

Last week, a large delegation of representatives from the Russian company visited Pinsk. “We examined all the possibilities and toured the facility. The impression was positive. However, I should remind you that the decision will be made by the supervisory board of the company. We have prepared all the relevant documents and submitted them. Within the near future, probably a week, a week and a half, or two, they will make a decision,” Piotr Parkhomchik noted, adding that various cooperation options in shipbuilding are possible. The simplest one is through obtaining a license and design documentation.

The Brest Oblast governor also spoke about an agreement with MAZ-MAN to build a catamaran boat for the oblast. In the future, a consortium could be created to address broader objectives beyond just Brest Oblast.
