BREST, 28 May (BelTA) – The 2nd international conference “State sovereignty and principles of international relations in conditions of multipolarity and diversity in the 21st century” kicked off in Brest on 28 May, BelTA has learned.
The conference has brought together representatives of political parties from Belarus and friendly countries. Brest hosts participants from Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Germany, Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Cuba, Laos, Moldova, Myanmar, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. Their colleagues from Serbia and Slovakia will join the discussion online.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko sent greetings to the conference participants. It was read out by First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Vladimir Pertsov.
Vladimir Pertsov pointed out that it is no coincidence the forum is being held in Brest. The city is located on the western border of Belarus, where different cultures intertwine and numerous historical events have unfolded. “There is probably no other city on the map of our Motherland where the soil has been so heavily drenched in blood. The Brest Fortress resisted longer than many European states,” he noted.
The first deputy head of the Belarus President Administration emphasized that people now live in challenging times, with borders being redrawn and history rewritten. “We are witnessing the very tectonic shifts between major global powers or blocs of states. That is precisely why political parties, as a vital link between the people and the authorities, acting as a litmus test for all political and social processes in their countries, must heed the signals of their societies in a timely manner and do everything possible, and even the impossible, to ensure that the tragedy that unfolded on Belarusian soil eight decades ago never happens again,” Vladimir Pertsov said.
Representatives of Belarusian and foreign political parties have gathered to discuss topical issues. During the plenary session, experts will share their views on strengthening sovereignty, regional partnership, and the development of international relations, as well as the role of political parties and public movements in these processes.
The first day of the conference began with a flower-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame at the Brest Hero Fortress. The participants honored the memory of the heroes and victims of the Great Patriotic War.
The program of the forum also includes the signing of international agreements. The foreign guests will visit “villages of the future” in Brest District and Kamenets District. They will also tour local enterprises and see Belarusian landmarks.
