Spring crops sown on 67% of planned area in Belarus

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Spring crops have been sown on 67% of the planned area in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

“According to operational data as of 4 May 2026, spring crops have been sown on an area of 1,537,000 hectares, which represents 67% of the total sowing area of 2,294,000 hectares. The sowing of flax (long-fiber) has been completed,” the press service informed.

The regional breakdown is the following: Grodno Oblast – 243,000 ha (73% of the plan), Brest Oblast – 300,000 ha (72% of the plan), Vitebsk Oblast – 222,000 ha (69% of the plan), Minsk Oblast – 340,000 ha (68% of the plan), Mogilev Oblast – 208,000 ha (63% of the plan), Gomel Oblast – 224,000 ha (56% of the plan).

Corn has been sown on 605,000 hectares across all regions of the country, which is 47% of the plan of 1,283,000 hectares.

Spring rapeseed sowing has been carried out on an area of 38,000 ha (97% of the plan of 40,000 ha). Sugar beet sowing has been completed with more than 107,000 hectares sown, which exceeds 100% of the planned area of 106,000 hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potash) for the 2026 spring sowing have been accumulated in the amount of 791,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which represents 95% of the plan. Organic fertilizers applied for spring sowing amount to 41 million tonnes or 78% of the amount transported out.

Potatoes have been planted on an area of 9,000 hectares across all regions of the country, which is 41% of the plan of 22,000 hectares. The regional breakdown is the following: Grodno Oblast – 57%, Brest Oblast – 45%, Minsk Oblast – 42%, Gomel Oblast – 40%, Mogilev Oblast – 36%, Vitebsk Oblast – 22%.

Vegetables (cabbage, beets, carrots, etc.) have been sown on nearly 4,000 hectares, which is 51% of the plan of 8,000 hectares.
