Kochanova urges to expand Belarus-Uzbekistan regional cooperation

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Uzbekistan need to expand regional cooperation, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov on 17 March, BelTA has learned.

“We have certainly established very friendly and good relations between our upper chambers. We work closely together in all international organizations. Our parliamentarians actively participate in monitoring electoral campaigns. We sincerely thank our colleagues from Uzbekistan who observed the presidential election held in Belarus in January. The electoral campaign was highly praised. In 2024, Belarusian members of parliament also took part in monitoring the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.
Currently preparations for the third Belarus-Uzbekistan Women’s Business Forum are underway. It will take place in Vitebsk. “We have already discussed these matters with Tanzila Narbaeva [Chairwoman of Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan]. I hope that within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union we will meet again to discuss the forum in detail, particularly the work of its sections,” the speaker stressed.
“Regional cooperation is very important for us, and we have mentioned this repeatedly,” Natalya Kochanova added. “We need to expand this interaction. This has been already discussed. We intend to organize a section on cooperation between local self-government bodies within the framework of the Women’s Business Forum. We want to demonstrate and explain how regional cooperation and interaction between the structures operating in our countries are crucial for sharing experience in today’s conditions. These are the people who work directly with our citizens, and this is very important,” the speaker said. “In my opinion, this effective work allows us to build communication between the authorities and the people. This is the future."
