MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Parliamentarians are coming to play an increasingly important role in today's situation, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, BelTA has learned.
“We are sincerely glad to be here, in Uzbekistan, with our friends. I would like to thank you for the invitation to take part in the meeting and for Uzbekistan's support of the Belarusian application to become a full-fledged member in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” said Natalya Kochanova. “It is very important for us. I hope that you will keep supporting our country in this very important matter. Our cooperation is making good progress in absolutely all areas, including economy, humanitarian contacts, youth policy, women's partnerships. Uzbekistan has recently hosted many significant events. Our cooperation is developing at all levels, and, of course, the leaders of our countries - our presidents set the pace. And we are committed to furthering their initiatives, because they are aimed to promote the development of our countries, our cooperation and our peoples,” she said.
Of course, economy is at the heart of everything, the speaker continued. “However, in order to boost economic growth, we should work in all areas. We should cooperate more closely and efficiently, because parliamentarians are coming to play an increasingly important role in today's global environment. If we unite efforts to promote the policy pursued in our countries - and I know that both Uzbekistan and Belarus are pursuing a policy that seeks to maintain peace and prosperity – I am sure we will be able to achieve them. And we will see that our countries are developing very intensively,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.
In turn, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva said: “We are more than satisfied with the recent progress in relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Belarus. As our president noted at the meeting with Aleksandr Lukashenko on the sidelines of the SCO summit, the two countries have made great strides in promoting bilateral relations based on friendship, good neighborliness and partnership.” She went on saying: “And, of course, this is facilitated by good, kind, friendly, and even brotherly relations between the leaders of the two states. They have often met lately, they exchange phone calls and constantly say that the current level of our bilateral cooperation lags behind the potential of the two states. We should work harder and should bring our peoples closer.”
