Belarus joins statement on Victory’s 80th anniversary in Vienna

MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) - In Vienna, the permanent missions of Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to the OSCE issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in World War II, BelTA learned from Belarus’ Permanent Mission in Vienna.

The statement was made public during a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on 8 May.

“80 years ago, Nazism was defeated in the Second World War. We commemorate and honor this sacred date. The triumph over ideas of racial superiority and misanthropy achieved by armed means by the coalition of allies has determined the fate of civilization on a planetary scale and cannot be put to oblivion. It is our common duty to cherish historical memory of those tragic events and the great exploit of millions of people who fought and died for the peace and prosperity of future generations,” the statement reads.

“Attempts to revise or distort the outcome of the Second World War, to rehabilitate and glorify the Nazis and their accomplices, as well as to downplay the role of the peoples of the Soviet Union and participants in the liberation movements of European countries in defeat of Nazism are categorically unacceptable,” the document runs.
