Press secretary on results of Belarus president’s negotiations with Sultan of Oman

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – Details of the negotiations held between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said in Muscat, Oman on 1 December have been revealed by the Belarus president’s Press Secretary Natalya Eismont on the air of the First News TV channel, BelTA has learned.
Natalya Eismont mentioned the kind, positive, and friendly atmosphere of the meeting of the two leaders. The meeting lasted for nearly 2.5 hours. Certainly, Belarus-Oman relations were in focus. They are built on pragmatic and mutually beneficial foundation and rely primarily on economy. “As our president noted today, we can manufacture a lot, people in Oman know how to sell and together we will be able to make and sell even more,” the press secretary said.

She stressed that Belarus is interested in expanding interaction with Oman, including onto other countries in Southeast Asia and Africa.

On the whole, in her words, all members of the Belarusian delegation have remarked upon a very good attitude on the part of Oman towards Belarus and Belarusians. “No deceleration. All the issues get addressed very fast. Everyone shows serious dedication to work,” Natalya Eismont stated.

An Omani investment agency is responsible for cooperation with Belarus in Oman. But during the negotiations the leaders of the two countries stated the intention to personally oversee the realization of joint projects and the agreements that had been reached. “As our president noted, there are many parties all over the world willing to work with Oman but we have a great deal of contact points, Belarus and Oman are comparable countries, and it is also a very important factor,” she remarked.

Speaking about concrete projects on the agenda of the negotiations between the Belarus president and the Sultan of Oman, the press secretary clarified that in agriculture those are projects concerning dairy and meat animal husbandry, the expansion of deliveries of Belarusian foods (butter, milk powder, halal meat products). “But Belarus would like Oman to invest in our country and to manufacture products on its own. As I’ve already said, Oman is a very understandable and comparable partner for us. And all the necessary conditions have already been created and will continue being created in Belarus,” she said.

Great attention is paid to ensuring the domestic food security in Oman. Oman is interested in Belarusian competences and technologies, particularly in agribusiness. It was stated that Belarus would provide comprehensive support for advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in this field.

The realization of a joint project to build a pulp and paper mill was an important topic covered by the negotiations. The leaders of the two states mentioned good progress in this endeavor.
Apart from that, cooperation in manufacturing sector and tourism was discussed. “There are many contact points in all spheres. As it was noted, the pace is the most important thing. In the modern world you need to get faster all the time. It is what our promising mutually beneficial cooperation hinges on,” Natalya Eismont summarized.
