Belarus' new mother of 2025 receives gifts from president

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – Minsk City Clinical Maternity Hospital No. 2 received guests who came to congratulate Olga Zayats and little Mirra, who was born in the first minute of the new year, BelTA learned.

“You know that there is nothing more important for our president than a peaceful, calm, happy childhood of our Belarusian kids,” press secretary of the Belarusian president Natalya Eismont said. According to her, the head of state is doing everything possible to make it so. the president never tires of repeating that the birth of children is a great happiness.

It is a great honor for me to convey congratulations and gifts from the head of state, Natalya Eismont continued. “Your daughter was born at such a magical moment. From the bottom of our hearts we wish that she has a happy life under our peaceful sky,” she said, noting that the girl received a symbolic name Mirra (mir is Russian for peace).

Olga Zayats was given flowers and a certificate for the purchase of household appliances. The family recently moved into a new apartment.

Natalya Eismont noted that the birth of a child is the most important event in the family. However, the housewarming is also a very pleasant event.

The mother of little Mirra remarked that her daughter's life started on a bright note and expressed hope that it would continue to be so. Olga thanked the staff of the maternity hospital, all the doctors and midwives. The woman noted that throughout her pregnancy she had the knowledgeable and compassionate doctors and nurses from Minsk City Clinical Maternity Hospital No. 2.
Olga told journalists why she chose this name for her baby girl. "I thought: what does the world need the most right now? Peace. That's why I decided to give her this name," said the woman. She thought that Mirra [peace] is a rare name but it turned out that it is quite common in Russia and Belarus.

Olga's husband is a border guard and he is on duty now. In September, the family got the keys to a rental home in Lida where new houses were built for border guards. Now the family is settling in step by step. The parents of the spouses live in Minsk, so Olga comes to the city quite often. She herself works in the education sector.

Mirra is the first child in this family. She was born weighing 3,170 g and is 49 cm tall. The couple has plans to have more children.

Speaking about gifts, Olga admitted that she expected a basket for the newborn, but did not even know about the certificate. According to her, this will come in handy, especially since the family did not have time to buy household appliances after they moved in.

According to Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhayev, five babies - four girls and one boy - were born in Belarus in the first minutes of 2025. Moreover, four of them were born in the first minute of the new year. Four minutes later, at 00:05, the fifth baby came into the world.

The minister noted that high-quality medical care is an important factor for families who consider having kids. "Affordable, high-quality healthcare encourages spouses to have children. The head of state sets goals for the government to create conditions conducive to having children. Families with children are entitled to very generous social programs."
