MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – The government should take advantage of the moment and pay more attention to road construction. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he appointed Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Terekhov, who will oversee these matters among other things, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Nowadays we buy oil at slightly cheaper prices than others. This surge has been caused due to madness in the Middle East. But I think things will get stabilized. Besides, we trade in oil with Russia at a certain discount and roads primarily depend on bitumen that is made from oil. We have all the other components. And since oil is cheaper, it is necessary to take advantage of the moment and fix our roads. The program has been determined. It is necessary to have solid, dependable roads from agrotowns to district capitals. And preferably in reinforced concrete. We need concrete roads wherever they are possible.”
“Wherever [concrete-surface roads] are impossible, I say that we have an opportunity. This year or possibly a year and a half we will enjoy oil prices lower than the world market ones. It means we should also use bitumen to build these roads,” the president added.
“Roads are a very important matter for us. We are a transit country. And nearly every family has one car or even two. And not only personal transport,” the president stressed.
