MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) - Syria appreciates the aspirations of the countries that are willing to build a new security system based on equality, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh said on the sidelines of the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
“My country has long suffered from the terrorist war and terrorist elements threaten to destroy its security and stability. Syria appreciates the aspirations of the countries that want to build a new security system based on the principles of equality and collective struggle against threats and dangers. In this situation, there will be no place for hegemony and the creation of artificial challenges that have dire consequences,” Bassam Sabbagh said.
The Syrian minister expressed confidence that a comprehensive security strategy was necessary to overcome existing and future challenges. “It should be a strategy that supports respect for the sovereignty and independence of countries, that opposes the interference of external forces and supports the peaceful resolution of conflicts. This coincides with the Syrian vision of how external influence in the region should be countered,” Bassam Sabbagh said.
In his opinion, a collective security concept should be developed taking into account the differences and common interests of countries. “My country also looks positively at the discussion of the Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century within the framework of this conference,” the Syrian minister added.
