MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) - The Vienna Chapter of the Group of Friends of Global Governance, created by the Chinese side as part of promoting the Global Governance Initiative, was launched in Vienna on 28 April, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
The event was attended by Andrei Dapkiunas, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the International Organizations in Vienna.
The Global Governance Initiative was put forward by the Chinese side and aims to develop a fairer and more balanced system of international relations. It focuses on strengthening multilateral cooperation, enhancing the role of international law and the central coordinating function of the United Nations.
The initiative promotes the principles of sovereign equality of states, inclusiveness, and consideration of the interests of all members of the international community. Special attention is paid to improving the effectiveness of global governance, adapting international institutions to contemporary challenges, and strengthening collective approaches to addressing them.
The permanent representative of Belarus reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to the principles of genuine multilateral cooperation, mutual respect, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, while also stressing the importance of strict compliance with international law as a key factor in ensuring global stability.
As one of the pressing issues on which the Group of Friends could take an active stance, the Belarusian permanent representative pointed to the need to counter the spread of unlawful unilateral coercive measures by states whose worldview is based on the idea of domination and a sense of their own superiority.
The Belarusian diplomat emphasized that the practice of subordination and intimidation should have no place in the emerging world order, and that sanctions aggression should be nipped in the bud. This requires unity of action and collective resolve from all states committed to the principles of good faith and responsible cooperation.
