MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will respond asymmetrically to all kinds of illegal pressure on the part of the West, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told reporters after negotiations with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov who was on an official visit to Belarus on 24 June, BelTA has learned.
“We have talked about coordinating and ramping up efforts to counter restrictions and sanctions of the United States, the EU and their satellites,” the Belarusian foreign minister said. “We still have no plans to preemptively harm business, humanitarian contacts or other types of practical cooperation, cross-border and human contacts. But we will continue to respond asymmetrically to all kinds of illegal pressure,” Sergei Aleinik continued.
“Our foreign ministries are on the same page regarding the need to expand and upgrade our mutual diplomatic presence,” said Sergei Aleinik.
In this regard, he thanked the Russian side for the prompt consideration of Belarus’ plans to upgrade the status of its embassy branches into consulates general. “This has already been done in St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, and will be done in Rostov-on-Don, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod and Vladivostok,” the foreign minister of Belarus informed.
