WADA publishes IOC's anti-doping rules for Tokyo 2020 Games

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has posted the anti-doping rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Tokyo 2020 Games, BelTA learned from the website of the agency.

The regulations have been brought into sync with the revised WADA Anti-Doping Code and the new List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, which came into force on 1 January 2021. The Rules will cover the period from the opening of the Tokyo Olympic Village on 13 July until the day of the closing ceremony on 8 August 2021.

During this period, all athletes will be subject to doping controls initiated by the International Testing Agency (ITA), to which the IOC has delegated some of its responsibilities related to the implementation of the doping control process during the 2020 Games. The ITA may test any athlete participating in the Games, both in and out of competition, and may demand that he/she provide samples at any time or place.

If an anti-doping rule violation is discovered, the results of the violator will be nulled. The athlete will be stripped off his/her medals. In team sports, target testing of all team members may be ordered if more than one positive doping sample is found.

The 32nd Olympic Games in Tokyo are scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021. The Games will feature 339 medal events in 33 sports. Belarusian athletes plan to secure about 100 Olympic berths. According to the Organizing Committee, 81 Belarusian athletes have so far fulfilled the Olympic qualification requirements in 16 sports.
