Olympics 2024: Belarus’ Shkurdai fails to qualify for 100m backstroke semifinal

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) - Belarusian swimmer Anastasiya Shkurdai clocked 1:00.94 to finish seventh in the women’s 100m backstroke preliminary Heat 5 at the ongoing 2024 Olympics Games in Paris, BelTA has learned.



In the overall table, the Belarusian placed 20th among 36 athletes. The best 16 swimmers advanced to the semifinal.
 
Anastasiya Shkurdai is also set to compete in the women’s 200m backstroke, the event that brought bronze to the athlete at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships.



Today, Paris La Défense Arena will host the women’s 100m breaststroke final. Alina Zmushka of Belarus qualified for the final with the best fifth time. The Belarusian clocked 1:05.93 in the semifinal, setting a new personal record. In the final Alina Zmushka will compete against Bebedetta Pilato of Italy, Lilly King of the USA, Tatjana Smith of the RSA, Ireland’s Mona Mc Sharry, China’s Qianting Tang, Angharad Evans of the UK and Estonia’s Eneli Jefimova.
