Karanik: Almost a third of NASB researchers are young scientists

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Nearly a third of researchers at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) are young scientists, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Karanik told BelTA at a press opportunity before the session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences.

“Nearly a third of our researchers are young scientists. But in science, the main criteria are professionalism and scientific novelty. And people of any ages can meet these criteria. It is gratifying not only to see the achievements of established scientists but also to watch young scientists’ developments roll off the assembly line,” said Vladimir Karanik.
The research spans a wide range, from machinery for feed table maintenance to critically important topics such as liquid radioactive waste processing and molecular modeling for potential therapeutic applications. These developments are being put into practice. Specifically, machines for maintaining feed tables are already on the production line and are being used in agriculture.
Molecular modeling makes it possible, using an information system, to determine the therapeutic potential of a molecule before moving to the stage of laboratory and preclinical studies. “This speeds up the development process and opens up opportunities for creating new drug formulations. The information system itself is a development by a team of young researchers,” noted Vladimir Karanik.
Approximately 250 representatives of academic, university, and industrial science, as well as young scientists from Belarus, are taking part in the session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
