Belarus lose to Germany in 2020 Davis Cup qualifier

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - Belarus lost 1-4 to Germany in the 2020 Davis Cup qualifier in Dusseldorf, BelTA has learned.

On Saturday, Belarus' Daniil Ostapenkov lost to Dominik Koepfer 0-6, 2-6.

The decider was the match between Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany and Belarus' Egor Gerasimov, with the German player wining 6-3, 6-2.

In the doubles rubber Andrei Vasilevski and Ilya Ivashka of Belarus lost 4-6, 6-7 to Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies of Germany.

On day one, 6 March, Ilya Ivashka lost to 4-6, 4-6 to Jan-Lennard Struff, and Egor Gerasimov beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.

Apart from Germany, victories in other qualifiers were celebrated by Australia, Kazakhstan, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Colombia, USA, Croatia, and Ecuador.

The winners advance to the Davis Cup final stage scheduled to take place in Madrid on 23-29 November. Spain will also host the matches of the host, the UK, Canada, France, Serbia and Russia.
