POSTAVY DISTRICT, 9 April (BelTA) - State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich visited the territorial defense facilities in Postavy District on 9 April, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Volfovich traveled to Postavy District to see how the territorial troops are trained following the head of state’s instructions. He visited the district’s territorial defense facilities and assessed the work of local authorities.
“Today the Armed Forces and other military structures of the state are in the most intensive period of combat training sessions. Along with this, our country emphasizes the quality training of territorial troops. Territorial defense is one of the most important directions of the defense of our state, increasing the defense capability of the country. Unlike our neighbors - Poland and Baltic states, we do not make focus on increasing the number of active Armed Forces, which causes significant damage to the country's economy and social security. Our Armed Forces and other military structures have the troops number necessary in peacetime,” the state secretary of the Security Council stressed.
In his words, territorial defense is given close attention. “The training of territorial troops is under the closest control and attention in the Armed Forces. If we analyze, almost every month the Armed Forces hold training camps for territorial troops in different regions,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
The head of the Security Council noted that the purpose of his visit to Postavy District was to get familiar with the training of territorial troops. “The chairman of the district executive committee has the understanding of how to organize territorial defense. There is an understanding of who should be assigned. Almost all the servicemen who came today to staff the headquarters of the district territorial defense and units have served in various military positions in the Armed Forces, Border Guard Service, Internal Affairs Ministry. The main key positions are also occupied by people with military experience. Perhaps the most important thing is people's understanding that this event is not for the sake of some fun. It is the dictates of the time and a very important issue, because according to our constitutional documents, the defense of our country has a national character,” the state secretary of the Security Council emphasized.
Aleksandr Volfovich added that the country approached the issues of territorial defense more than 20 years ago, when it realized that it was necessary to develop the training of territorial troops. “We studied the experience of foreign countries, countries in the post-Soviet space. Over more than 20 years we have gained vast experience in organizing issues of territorial defense, training of territorial troops. Our experience is used by our neighbors in the post-Soviet space, our strategic partners. The Russian Federation adopts some of the issues related to the preparation of the deployment of territorial troops. We are paying close attention to this issue. This is a very important area in the defense of our country and our interests. The situation today requires this, so along with the quality of training of the Armed Forces, we pay attention to the issues of training of military personnel in reserve,” Aleksandr Volfovich stressed.
