"On Point"
MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – Europe was trained to tag along the United States and it did it for many years, Editor-in-Chief of the Words and Meanings almanac Elena Kondratieva-Salguero (France) said in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project “V teme” [On Point] commenting on the reaction of European leaders to the talks between Moscow and Washington.
“Europe has gone hysterical, it was taken aback and did not believe for a long time that this could happen. The new American administration means what it says and this will have a long-lasting impact. And Europe cannot yet fathom and accept this new reality without resistance,” said Elena Kondratieva-Salguero.
According to her, it was already clear in 2014 that no one was going to play with Russia by the so-called rules. “At first they tried to find fault with athletes, something else... It all started back then. The ground was being prepared for stoking Russophobia, which never really gained traction in Europe, despite some violent outbursts,” she emphasized.
According to Elena Kondratieva-Salguero, after the new American administration came to power, European leaders began to be outraged or even offended by the statements and actions of the US leadership. “Europe has been following along with the US for decades. This concerns fashion, ideas, concepts...”, she stated.
