In the footsteps of Napoleon's army. Belarus resumes archaeological research in Berezina River basin

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) - The Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, together with the diving center, resumed underwater archaeological research on the Berezina River at the crossing site of Napoleon's army in November 1812, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.

Scientists are working in places where the French army fled more than 200 years ago. Research is being carried out near the village of Studenka, Borisov District. "We are pinpointing the places of army camp sites, looking for burial sites. The work is large-scale. We have the first finds. But we will be ready to talk about them only after we complete the work and systematize all the information," Director of the History Institute of Vadim Lakiza told BelTA.

The expedition will last until 17 June.
