MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) - In the evenings, he missed salo [salted pork fatback], but where could you get that in Egypt? A 70-year-old pensioner from Gomel shared his impressions of spending the winter in a warm country on the ONT television channel, BelTA has learned.

The Gomel resident, who worked for half a century as a technician at a radio plant and later at a railway repair enterprise, went to winter in Egypt with his wife.

“Many people bring suitcases full of pills with them, but the sea is health. I stand in the water and recharge with positivity. I want you all to look at each other, smile, and say: are we any worse? We can do this too!” with these words, 70-year-old Aleksandr Grinkevich addressed viewers in videos he posted on his social media page. Thanks to this positive attitude, the man quickly became popular: his videos garnered hundreds of thousands of views, accompanied by likes and comments. In his videos, the Belarusian tried to show that even on a pension, he could deny himself nothing at the resort if he approached organizing the trip wisely.

“We can always change our lives, change them qualitatively,” the Gomel resident is confident.

However, as the pensioner shared, in scorching Africa he greatly missed Belarusian salo. “Especially in the evenings, I really craved salo! But where could you get it in Egypt? And that was one of the reasons I wanted to come home,” Aleksandr admits, adding that Egypt doesn’t have trees like those in Gomel, from which you can draw energy, nor does it have Belarusian squirrels like those in the park near the Paskevich Palace.

Having returned home to Gomel, Aleksandr hasn’t stopped filming, confirming his status as a “people’s blogger”.

“Behind me is not the Red Sea, but the Sozh River. Look, admire our river!” the content from chilly Belarus is just as sunny.

“I’m not an oligarch; I live in an ordinary apartment in a building from 1959. My income is exactly the same as that of any ordinary Belarusian,” he said, emphasizing that he is ready to share advice with those who want to follow his example and start traveling in retirement.

“Take from life everything you can. Spend your days positively, rejoice. Smile, ladies and gentlemen, smile!” he summarized.
