MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - Belarus will not be affected by the energy crisis linked to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Aleksei Avdonin, Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Society Znanie, in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Speaking about the long-term consequences for the global economy resulting from the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the expert pointed to an energy crisis that could engulf many countries around the world. Due to the sharp rise in energy prices, the cost of producing various goods will increase, which will affect the price at which they reach the end consumer.

“Under these conditions, only those countries that have direct access to energy resources and relatively cheap electricity will benefit. At the same time, it is important to have the ability to sell their goods. After all, it sometimes happens that you can produce something, but there is no one to sell it to,” said Aleksei Avdonin.

The expert noted that Belarus will not be affected by the energy crisis that may occur in the global economy due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz: “We have the Union State and access to relatively cheap energy resources - gas and oil. We are in no way connected to the Strait of Hormuz.”

In his view, Belarus can take advantage of the current situation in global markets to promote its exports. “The production cost of our goods is relatively low, and we need to use this time to secure new niches for our products. More exports mean more revenue for our enterprises. Consequently, higher wages and greater prosperity for our citizens,” Aleksei Avdonin said.
