Chinese film based on true story of Nanjing tragedy screened in Minsk

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – A new Chinese film, Dead to Rights, about the tragedy of the war years in Nanjing was presented at the Pioneer cinema in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Prior to the screening, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan remarked:  “13 December marks the National Memorial Day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre in China. The screening of this film on the eve of this memorial date holds special significance.”

The Ambassador recalled: “On 13 December 1937, Japanese militarists captured Nanjing and began a brutal massacre that shocked the world. Over the course of six weeks, Japanese troops slaughtered around 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers in the city. This is an eternal wound in the hearts of the Chinese people and a dark page in the history of human civilization.”

The film Dead to Rights revisits this historical period and tells the story of how local residents of Nanjing risked everything to preserve the negatives documenting the atrocities of the Japanese invaders. The plot is based on true events.
