MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Ecuador intends to start the procedure of closing its embassy in Minsk soon, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to Belarus Leopoldo Enrique Rovayo Verdesoto.
The ambassador said: “Today we've contacted the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to get specific instructions on closing the embassy in Minsk due to economic problems in our country. We will get the corresponding instructions soon in order to start closing the diplomatic mission.”
The ambassador added that it is too early to talk about when exactly the embassy in Minsk will be closed and who may be the non-resident ambassador of Ecuador to Belarus.
“For now the embassy continues working to advance Belarus-Ecuador cooperation,” said Leopoldo Enrique Rovayo Verdesoto. He stressed that the Ecuadorian side is interested in continued cooperation with Belarus.
According to the diplomat, Ecuador is going to close three embassies and three consulates due to the economic crisis.
