Governor outlines crop farming plans for Gomel Oblast

MOZYR, 8 April (BelTA) - About 300,000 hectares have been allocated for corn in Gomel Oblast this year, Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Ivan Krupko told the media after his report to the president on a wide range of issues, including the development of crop farming and livestock breeding, BelTA has learned.

The main task set by the president is the sowing of corn for green fodder and grain, the head of the region emphasized. Gomel Oblast intends to sow corn on approximately 300,000 hectares, of which 93,000 hectares will be corn for grain.

“The 100,000 tonnes of crimped corn stockpiled last year have found their use in livestock farming. This year, the goal is to reach an even higher level and plant 93,000 hectares with grain corn. About 30% of corn will be crimped. This does not require additional grain drying or extra costs. The cost price comes within Br230-250. Moreover, the feed energy is very good. The result is noticeable both in cattle weight gains and in milk production,” Ivan Krupko said.

The head of state is planning a big working trip to the southeastern region to assess the situation on the ground.
