Governor comments on prospects of beef farming in Gomel Oblast

MOZYR, 8 April (BelTA) - Following his report to the president, Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Ivan Krupko talked to journalists to comment on the main aspects of the development of the livestock industry, BelTA has learned.

Ivan Krupko emphasized that the head of state had set the task of developing the beef industry in the region. “We approached this issue very seriously. We studied Miratorg’s process and technology of raising beef cattle in Bryansk Oblast. As the first step, we have already created the breeding core on the basis of the farm in Gomel District that breeds heifers and bulls of the Aberdeen Angus beef breed,” Ivan Krupko said.

The enterprises and meat processing plants will set up feedlots to raise cattle up to 250 kg and then up to a weight of 600-700 kg outdoor feeding lots. “I think this work will be carried out over 2026-2027. The breeding core has been formed, and two breeds will be raised: Aberdeen Angus and Limousin,” Ivan Krupko said.

The experimental farm Krinichnaya in Mozyr District is exploring the Simmental breed. "This is a dairy farm with a breeding focus. They are engaged in the development of this breed, which has good meat and dairy qualities,” the governor added.

Overall, the region carries out systemic work with a network of enterprises. "The breeding core has been established under the supervision of the regional breeding enterprise. Beef cattle will be raised at farm sites and meat processing plants. Then, it will be processed at the meat processing plant, minimizing costs, and the marbled beef will be supplied directly to stores. This will shorten the distance between producer and processor as the producer and processor will be one and the same,” the governor said. In his opinion, the end result will be noticeable and the effect will be achieved.

“Just as Miratorg, we will establish the full cycle, from breeding, raising young stock, feedlot fattening, processing, and the delivery of steaks and other meat products to retail chains. Our meat processing plants have their own retail outlets and agricultural enterprises where such facilities can be created. The breeding young stock is already available. Through such cooperation, we can achieve good technological weight gains and the final result with a high level of profitability and, naturally, to deliver high-quality, tasty beef to customers,” Ivan Krupko said.
