MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarusian and foreign experts will gather for an international meeting in Minsk on 28 November to discuss lightning protection standards, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Committee for Standardization.
The event, which is to take place at the Belarusian National Institute of Standardization and Certification, will be attended by representatives of public administration, research, design and production organizations, standardization organizations of Belarus, Spain, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and France.
Specialists will consider the draft interstate standard of GOST "Lightning protection. Protection of buildings and open areas from lightning by lightning rods with early streamer emission". It was developed on the basis of the French national standard.
The project sets requirements for "active" lightning protection systems. They are more effective, but at the international and European levels this method of lightning protection is not standardized. It is used in such countries as Argentina, Belarus, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Russia, France, where national, industrial, corporate standards or other regulatory documents are valid.
The meeting participants will review the results of the practical use of the lightning protection systems and assess the accumulated statistical data.
“Dialogue with the participation of a wide range of stakeholders will clarify the positions of the expert community and develop recommendations for the standardization of lightning protection systems both in the CIS and at the national level, to identify possible ways of cooperation in the study and application of best lightning protection practices,” the press service of the committee said.
