MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - President of the Belarusian NOC Viktor Lukashenko congratulated Georgii Gurtsiev on winning a silver medal at the 2025 Wuxi World Taekwondo Championships in China, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian NOC.
At the 2025 worlds Georgii Gurtsiev overpowered athletes from Nepal, Georgia, Chinese Taipei, Niger, and Azerbaijan, losing only in the final to Iran’s Abolfazl Zandi. Two years ago at the World Championships in Baku, Georgii Gurtsiev also claimed a silver medal.
“Your performance has been a brilliant example of perseverance and hard work. Over the past two years, you have twice ascended the podium at the world championships, which speaks to your talent, professionalism, and determination. We are proud of you and are confident that new victories and significant achievements are in store for you in the future,” the NOC president noted.
Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk also joined the congratulations. “You have demonstrated the highest level of skill, strength of spirit, and dedication to your craft. Your silver medal at the world championships is a source of pride for the entire sporting community of Belarus and clear confirmation that perseverance and talent yield well-deserved rewards,” the minister noted.
