MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus Inna Medvedeva told BelTA how the National Statistical Committee interacts with colleagues from other countries.

“We have well-established partnerships with our colleagues from the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee and the Statistics Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The fourth EAEU forum that included a roundtable on artificial intelligence in statistics was held in June under the auspices of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Statistical committees from Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan presented their solutions at the event,” said Inna Medvedeva.

The statistical committees of Belarus and Russia have a long-standing tradition of jointly discussing development strategies. “The Council of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus and the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia (Rosstat) addresses our most pressing issues. We maintain daily contact with our Russian colleagues, exchanging expertise online when needed,” she said.

Good relations have also been established with colleagues from Kazakhstan. “We hold video conferences with them. Under our agreed plan, both sides exchanged questions: Kazakhstan presented its topics for discussion to Belarus, and we similarly presented ours,” Inna Medvedeva noted.

Regarding Azerbaijan, the work on a draft memorandum of cooperation is nearing completion. The document is to be signed at the end of September this year.

“We are preparing a similar memorandum with our colleagues from China, given that we are very interested in the Chinese experience in digitizing new sectors of the economy. We hope we will be able to exchange best practices. Our Chinese colleagues expressed keen interest in our work during a visit by our specialists, who presented Belarus’ statistical legislation and the working methods of the National Statistical Committee,” Inna Medvedeva emphasized.

According to her, the committee maintains fruitful cooperation with other countries as well. “We have not severed contacts with the EU countries. Our specialists attend meetings of the UN Statistical Commission, the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians,” she emphasized.

Inna Medvedeva concluded: “Statistics is a field that demands constant improvement, so we always have something to learn from our colleagues.”
