Expert weighs in on current global military and strategic balance of power

MINSK, 27 October(BelTA) – Once European countries and the USA enjoyed military dominance that could not be ignored. Today Russia outperforms them all put together, political analyst, military expert and former Israeli statesman Yakov Kedmi said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel. Regarding Russia’s potential, the analyst pointed out that although the Soviet Union was militarily weaker than the West around 70 years ago, during and after WWII, this is no longer the case. “There was a time when the West’s military superiority was reckoned with. For instance, Soviet troops did not enter Tehran due to the threat of nuclear weapons, which the United States could have used against the Soviet Union more effectively at the time. But that was a temporary condition. They had nuclear weapons then, while the Soviet Union was just beginning its journey. After all, Russia commissioned nuclear weapons not in 1949, but only in 1951. In 1949, it was only tested, the first bomb. But that period is now a thing of the past,” the expert noted.

According to him, today, in military and strategic terms, Russia is not inferior to Europe and the USA. “It surpasses the West both collectively and individually. Only that factor could have served as a deterrent to war in such a scenario. That deterrent is now gone. Everything else has never had any effect on Russia, on the Soviet Union. Never,” the analyst emphasized.
