KOSTYUKOVICHI, 30 April (BelTA) – During a meeting with residents of the town of Kostyukovichi on 30 April, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked about his opinion on modern school proms, which are increasingly turning into limousine parties, BelTA has learned.
“I have an extremely negative attitude to them,” the head of state said. “A prom is about dancing, having fun and watching the sunrise together. It is very important.”
The head of state emphasized that a gap between the rich and the poor should not be allowed and the state is doing everything to create equal conditions and opportunities for all students. “We should stick to such rules, and avoid such spectacles at the end of school. When you are richer, you hire a limo and send your offspring to the school prom party. How do other people look at it? How do parents look at it? This is wrong,” the head of state said. “I say it openly: we cannot cultivate it, we cannot support it. This is bad.”
As for graduation parties, Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed the government to take the issue of school prom parties under strict control: “We have senior officials of the government and the President Administration. Please, take this matter under strict control.”
“All this extravaganza is unnecessary. It is necessary to put heart and soul in such events. We are kind-hearted people. Students, teachers, parents should get together and make up their minds. Everything should be beautiful. The first part of the prom should be held together with parents. Then the parents can go home and let their children celebrate the end of school on their own and see the sunrise together,” the head of state added.
