MP: Hybrid attack on Belarus, other CSTO members is underway

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus and other members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) became the targets of a hybrid attack, Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov told a BelTA reporter.

A day before, he addressed the meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly's Standing Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation. He spoke about the address of Belarusian MPs to the international community in connection with the situation around Belarus. He also shared his opinion on the priority tasks of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

The MP noted that Belarus joined the Collective Security Treaty Organization for a reason. The CSTO potential is huge. The establishment of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is an important and symbolic milestone because it is designed to do political work: to promote goals and objectives of the CSTO that acts as a regional defense organization. Sergei Rachkov emphasized that Belarus participates in the activities of the CSTO as a whole and its Parliamentary Assembly in particular. The work within the CSTO PA commissions is in full swing, including within the Standing Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation.

“The current political situation around our states is not easy. We see a mounting offensive. A hybrid, sophisticated offensive against the Republic of Belarus and other member states of the organization is taking place. This is not only economic pressure, but also political and diplomatic pressure. Therefore, we must actively work in international organizations, consistently communicate our position at all platforms: both international and inter-parliamentary ones. To be such a platform is one of the tasks of the CSTO PA. Now we are going to formalize another very important area of the Parliamentary Assembly's activities - monitoring of elections in the CSTO participating states,” the senator said.

Sergei Rachkov noted that this work is already underway. Now it is very important to cement the results, to provide a methodological basis for this activity. Parliamentarians should step up their efforts in the political arena in order to advance the CSTO agenda.
