MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Malaysia have agreed to set up an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. This agreement was reached during a visit of Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich to Kuala Lumpur, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
In the capital of Malaysia, Sergei Lukashevich held talks with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamad bin Alamin of Malaysia. The diplomats discussed the exchange of visits at the highest and high levels, the intensification of inter-parliamentary dialogue, the development of the legal framework, and the recognition of the Belarusian BelHalal certificates in Malaysia.
"The parties exchanged views on promising areas of joint work on the sidelines of international organizations, especially taking into account the receipt by both countries of the status of a BRICS partner state. The parties agreed to hold full-fledged ministerial consultations on all issues on the bilateral agenda in the near future," the ministry said.
During a meeting with Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong, the emphasis was placed on trade and economic cooperation, agriculture and food security. The parties reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached during the talks between Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov and Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz on the sidelines of the 9th Belt and Road Summit in September of this year.
"The parties agreed to set up the Belarusian-Malaysian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, to work out the visit of a Belarusian business delegation under the auspices of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to Malaysia and the signing of a cooperation agreement between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries," the press service added.
