MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - Vietnam highly appreciates and never forgets the support of the Belarusian people in the war for national liberation, reunification and post-war development of the country, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Belarus Nguyen Van Ngu said in an interview with BelTA in the run-up to the visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam to Minsk.
"The Victory Day of the Vietnamese people in 1975 was also a victory of vivid internationalism," the diplomat noted, referring to the 50th anniversary of the Victory which is being celebrated in Vietnam this year. “Vietnam highly appreciates and never forgets the material and moral support of the Soviet people, including Belarusian people in the war for national liberation, reunification and post-war development of the country," the diplomat said.
"We have organized many actions of gratitude for Belarusian veterans. The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense invited Belarusian veterans to visit the former battlefields for our country's independence. The Vietnamese Embassy in Belarus often holds meetings with veterans on the occasion of major holidays, and maintains regular contacts with Belarusian veterans, who are now fewer and fewer due to their advanced age. In addition, we have presented high state awards, including the Friendship Medal, to the veterans who made a significant contribution to the struggle for Vietnam's independence," Ambassador Nguyen Van Ngu said.
He emphasized that Vietnam "values the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Belarus and wishes to further this beautiful friendship so that it flourishes and bears fruit".
