MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic, met with parliamentarians from several CIS countries on 9 April, BelTA has learned.
Uzbekistan was represented by Kobul Tursunov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Economic Affairs of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis; Tajikistan by Holboy Nematullo, a deputy of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli; and Kyrgyzstan by Karim Khanjeza, a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation, interparliamentary interaction, and their impressions of participating in the international tourism forum Travel Hub Commonwealth.

“We have established a solid foundation of bilateral relations that are developing at all levels, including at the level of ordinary people. We greatly value the dialogue that has developed between our countries. We are ready to do everything possible to help strengthen it at the interparliamentary level. The leaders of our parliaments meet annually. The next meeting will take place in May 2026 at the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg. The IPA plays an important role not only as a platform for dialogue but also as a tool for harmonizing legislation and developing model laws,” Sergei Aleinik emphasized.
According to the parliamentarian, there are many unifying patriotic projects within the CIS countries, such as the Train of Memory and Children of the CIS. “This year, the Train of Memory project will be implemented for the fifth time. In our country, children are very interested in this project; around 12,000 children took part in the competitive selection. The Children of the CIS project took place in Belarus last year; this year, our children will go to Tajikistan. Last year, Minsk hosted a meeting of the CIS Youth Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Youth issues are very important in interparliamentary cooperation, and we will continue active interaction in this area,” Sergei Aleinik said.
Turning to economic cooperation, he observed that the economy plays a consolidating role in strengthening interaction between countries. “Together with Uzbekistan, we have already held several business forums,” the parliamentarian said. “Last year, contracts worth over Br260 million were signed at the Belarus-Uzbekistan forum. We hope that this year we will go further and those figures will increase. We also have good dynamics in trade with Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. For our part, we are ready to make every effort to facilitate and promote economic ties between our countries.”
