MINSK, 1 January (BelTA) – The list of financial instruments, for which target values of standard risks are set, has changed in Belarus as of 1 January, the press service of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) told BelTA.

The following values have been set for January 2026: for new irrevocable fixed-term bank deposits (deposits) of individuals in rubles with the maturity of one to three years - 14.82% per annum; for new irrevocable fixed-term bank deposits (deposits) of individuals in rubles with the maturity of more than three years - 15.62% per annum.

For new investment loans granted to legal entities (except for preferential ones), the standard risk value is set at 11.8% per annum, for new loans granted to legal entities (except for preferential and investment loans) - 13.06% per annum, for new loans granted to individuals (except for preferential loans) - 18.92% per annum.

Standard risk estimates represent a tool used to ensure financial stability. Representatives of the National Bank previously explained to BelTA that it is one of the markers of the upper limit on interest rates, which is calculated as follows: the average level of rates of systemically important banks plus a certain surcharge (measure of spread).

It gives banks a warning level, which, according to the National Bank and on the basis of market data, is considered a sign of high-risk behavior. Such behavior is not prohibited by the National Bank, but additional requirements are imposed on banks in terms of capital and the formation of reserves. This is a reserve buffer in case the bank encounters any difficulties as a result of risky behavior.
