MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Slovakia is a friendly country for Belarus, and it should be treated accordingly, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said while approving the appointment of the new Belarusian ambassador to Slovakia on 3 March, BelTA has learned.
“As for Slovakia, it is a friendly country to us. They have their own position. We must treat them accordingly, in a decent way,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also noted that he is personally acquainted with Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, who, by virtue of his position, plays a key role in governing the country. They have developed good relations. The politicians have met and discussed many issues. “[He is] a reasonable person, very concerned about his country. He hasn’t forgotten where his roots are,” the Belarusian leader said.
Igor Fisenko has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Slovak Republic. Until now, he held the position of Head of the Europe Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
